Dans les fagacées (arbres de la forêt), il y a le Marronnier qui donne le Marron d’Inde (non comestible).
Et puis il y a son cousin le Châtaigner qui donne à l’état sauvage la Châtaigne.
Une fois greffé, il donne une variété qui n’a plus de petites peaux (des tans) à l’intérieur du fruit.
On appelle cette variété le Marron.
Celui-ci est comestible., C’est avec lui qu’on fait de la crème de Marron et des Marrons glacés.
